IWC News & Press

(June, 2016) Raised by first generation Italian parents, Deborah Bazzano-Banhos was surrounded by food and wine her entire life. She fondly recalls childhood vacations to Italy with her family and the trips they would take to local family friends’ vineyards in the Italian countryside. She also studied in Florence during college which gave her the opportunity to tour Tuscany. Accomplishing her diploma was a long and challenging process, and one that she found extremely beneficial. When asked about the process of the program her response was enthusiastic, “The best part is the gratification, I feel more accomplished in my career.”

Deborah has held a number of different positions within the wine industry, from working in an Italian wine bar to retail and production. Currently, she is the New York State Manager for Esprit du Vin – Fine Wine Imports. She has also had the opportunity to visit a Classified 1st growth Chateau in Bordeaux.

To enrich her knowledge, Deborah embraced the structured environment of International Wine Center. Although she found the program intense, she felt it was wonderful to meet other people who feel the same passion for wine that she does. Deborah considers the accomplishment of completing her WSET diploma thoroughly monumental. She expressed that it has “Given me a deeper sense of confidence which, in turn, allows me to perform my job better.  I don’t second guess myself.”

When she is not traveling to Bordeaux you can find her cooking, spending time with her family and practicing Capoeira-a Brazilian martial art.
