WSET Diploma

UNIT 1 & 2

International Wine Center offers the Diploma Introductory class for Unit 1 & 2 twice a year, in the spring and fall. The Unit 2 Exam is a gateway exam to the rest of the program and must be attempted before any other Units in Diploma, including the Unit 1 examinations (see Coursework Assignments and the Unit 1 Assignment FAQ).

Initial registration for Diploma includes the following:

Study Guide for Unit 1
Study Guide for Unit 2

Students will then download:

A copy of the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT)
The Diploma Specification booklet
The Candidate Assessment Guide

Not included in the kit are two texts for Diploma; the Oxford Companion to Wine 3rd Edition (required for Diploma) and Understanding Wine Technology (recommended reference for Unit 2). Amazon.com offers these, or IWC can supply you with a copy of Understanding Wine Technology for an additional materials fee of $30. Students may also wish to browse the list of recommended reading for Diploma.

Three Year Registration:
Students are registered for three years. They may sign-up for any Units and attempt the various assessments associated with Diploma as many times as necessary during this registration period.If Diploma studies are not complete within the 3-year registration period, then students may re-register for an additional 3-year period. Your accumulated passes will carry forward after being reviewed by the WSET.

WSET Diploma Assessment Preparation Scheme (DAPS):
The mentoring program - now known as DAPS - is administered by the WSET in London and is an invaluable tool for students. Please see the WSET DAPS Program FAQ for a full description.

Unit 1 Coursework Assignments

Transitional Candidates: The transitional program has ended. Students who have not completed Unit 1 will have to sit for the Case Study Examination and - if they have no Coursework passes under the old system - will have to submit a Coursework Assignment.

Students MUST register with IWC if they wish to submit a Coursework Assignment (CWA). The registration deadline is two weeks prior to the actual paper deadline. CWA Deadlines are open to all Diploma students who have previously sat for the Unit 2 multiple-choice exam.

Download our CWA coversheet , fill it out completely and attach it to the assignment in order to submit the paper.

CWA Questions are posted on the WSET website in May and are valid for the CWA deadlines in November and April.
