Not included in the kit are two texts for Diploma; the Oxford Companion to Wine (3rd Edition) (required for Diploma) and Understanding Wine Technology (3rd Edition) (highly recommended for Unit 2). Students may also wish to browse the list of recommended reading for Diploma.

Three Year Registration:
New Diploma students are registered for three years. They may enroll for any Units and attempt the various assessments associated with Diploma as many times as necessary during this registration period. If Diploma studies are not completed within the 3-year registration period, then students may re-register for an additional 3-year period. Upon registration renewal, any prior passes are subject to reevaluation by the WSET for timeliness and relevancy.

WSET Diploma Assessment Preparation Scheme (DAPS):
The DAPS program, which uses the WSET Online Classroom environment, is administered by WSET in London and is an invaluable tool for students. Please see the WSET DAPS Program FAQ for a full description of how it works.

Unit 1&2 Exams:
Unit 1 is evaluated by way of 2 assessments: A Case-Study examination and a Course Work Assignment.
Unit 2 is evaluated by way of a 100-Question Multiple Choice exam.

Unit 1 Case Study Examination Schedule

Students MUST register with IWC if they wish to submit a Coursework Assignment (CWA). The registration deadline is approximately two weeks prior to the paper submission deadline. CWA submissions are open to all Diploma students who have previously sat for the Unit 2 multiple-choice exam.

CWA Topics are posted on the WSET website in May and are valid for the CWA submission deadlines in November and April.

Diploma ONLINE for New Students
All exams take place in New York City

Induction Course to the ONLINE Format of WSET® Diploma

All students must enroll in an Induction Course to the ONLINE Diploma in conjunction with the first Unit of Diploma that they study online. (For new students, this will be in conjunction with their Unit 2 registration.) This Induction Course will orient you to the tools and procedures of the ONLINE Diploma program. Choose an Induction Course that closely precedes the start date of your first ONLINE Unit. For all Diploma ONLINE courses, including Induction, students should expect to spend approximately 10 hours per week working on the ONLINE activities. The Induction Course is free when you register for any Unit of ONLINE Diploma study*.

New Diploma students must begin with Unit 2. The course is comprised of 8 weeks of online study and a practice exam. Price includes 3-year Diploma Registration, Unit 2 online study program, Unit 2 study materials, Unit 2 exam, and 2 "Course Days" covering Diploma strategies and tasting techniques (for still, sparkling, and fortified wines, as well as spirits)

Diploma ONLINE for Continuing Students
All exams take place in New York City
